So much good food this week and in this week’s newsletter!
Our Real Life
We’ve been keeping meals simple the last couple weeks- like this baked chicken and roasted brussels. No need for a splattered stovetop to get crispy chicken: just roast bone-in, skin on thighs at high heat on a baking rack (like this one) and you’ll have crispy, bubbly skin without effort!
I am REALLY into dips right now. And also Peanut Butter. And it’s awesome, because it’s real food and it’s what my body wants. This is one of the things about the Paleo diet that I love most- following a general set of principles, but feeling empowered to experiment with different foods to determine what my body thrives on, and also what it’s limits are.
Loved the almond milk hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows from Rise Bakery- just what was needed for Batman and I after a day of errands and time spent at an outdoor craft fair! Rise is one of our favorite gluten-free bakeries. We wrote about them in this post, if you’re local and want to know what our favorite things to get there are!
And if you’re now craving hot chocolate and homemade marshmallows <— we’ve got recipes for you!
While this doesn’t seem like the most newsletter-worthy story… it’s too helpful NOT to share! I posted about my deodorant dilemma (that I’ve tried literally every natural brand I’ve seen, and they all turn my pits raw or frankly don’t work) on Instagram and was met with a great discussion and tons of helpful ideas from the community. If you’ve struggled to find a safe deodorant that you actually like, you’ll want to read through the comments on this Instagram post!
Our Favorite Nut-Free Foods!
We’ve been loving these Pure Fruit and Veggie Strips lately! They are fruit leathers, but with veggies added in (you can’t tell!) and have no added sugar, only the sweetness that come from the fruit. Plus, they’re the perfect size for lunch boxes.
Inka Chips have been in the boys’ lunch box for years now! They are crunchy, salty, filling, and a great way to add healthy carbs to help the boys power through the day.
We think that Sun Butter tastes the closest to peanut butter. It’s creamy and nutty without the nuts, and it is perfect with celery or apples, or even used in baked goods as a sub for almond butter.
We’ve loved EPIC products for years now, but their new Pork Rinds and Pork Cracklings are completely awesome! We’ve been dipping them in guac, sending them in lunch boxes, and taking them on long car rides.
Craving other crunchy food? Freeze-dried apples, like these Bare Apple Chips are sweet without added sugar, and have a great crunch. Since they are fun to eat, and because they are simply apples and nothing more, these are a great way to send fruit to school!
