Happy Thanksgiving week! Everything you need for a successful holiday dinner in our recipe-packed newsletter:
Our Real Life
I spent last weekend visiting my good friend from college in (and around) Seattle, WA. We ate incredible seafood and I took in as much of a food & culture tour as I could over the weekend! I had an ah-mazing time and will be sharing all the details of my favorite finds soon, so look for that in the coming weeks!
I brought home goodies for the family, including this huuuge (gluten-free) “monster cookie”, which the boys were declaring was as big as Wesley’s head. I was only gone for a few days, but I sure missed these three goofballs!!
Since extra treats + travel leave me feeling just shy of my best, its been tons of Vital Proteins, nourishing broth, and snuggles all week. We may have changed our name from Paleo Parents to Real Everything, but believe me, there is still a lot of parenting going on in our house! I needed to have a grown-up conversation with Cole, so I took him out to dinner. Instead of telling him how it’s going to be, we spoke like two independent humans with mutual respect enjoying a meal together. We came to a fair compromise for both parties, AND shared a delicious meal. I got a Caesar salad (with anchovies, of course!) and a rib-eye with grilled broccolini and he got a bunless burger with pickles, lettuce & shrooms along with a loaded baked potato.
No, we’re not perfect. But when my kid voluntarily steals my salad and loads up his plate with veggies I’m feeling like we’re not doing too shabby a job! We always approach parenting (as often as our patience allows) with the goal of educating and empowering our boys, so they can make their own choices – or at least understand where we are coming from. Be it food, school, or life in general, I find giving my boys respect (the way I want to be treated) has never failed me.
I am continually reminded of how thankful I am for all we have- especially for family and good health. We’ll be having a big Thanksgiving gathering later this week, but this weekend we are spending time at a cabin with friends for our annual “Friendsgiving.” See what we’re up to over on Instagram (especially in the stories!).

Thanksgiving Essentials
Pumpkin pie spice makes it easy to add that “pumpkin spice” flavor to anything and everything. Put some in your morning tea or coffee, and take the guess work out of pumpkin desserts with this pre-made blend.
Leaf lard: possibly our favorite holiday baking essential – but if you don’t want to make your own you can find it at OSPS! With the magic of this no-flavor, light baking fat, you will perfect the grain-free flaky pie crust. Not to mention, if it is from pastured animals (like this brand is!) it is full of nutrients like Vitamin D (which we all need more of in the winter)!
Almond flour is one of our Paleo holiday baking staples. We’ve got a ton of festive recipes using almond flour – see below for some Thanksgiving inspiration!
Wireless meat thermometer is Matt’s secret to making perfectly cooked meat EVERY TIME! Never have a dry turkey or overcooked steak again. Another holiday cooking gadget essential in our house!
