We’ve got warm weather eats and Father’s day preparations on our minds in this week’s newsletter!
Our Real Life
My extended family isn’t Paleo, but since returning home from our trip, my little sister has been eating very clean. We celebrated her birthday this week, and instead of cake, she had this incredible spread of fruit… including many dipped in chocolate. How gorgeous is this?! I can assure you, nobody even missed the birthday cake!
Have you ever had the feeling that you need a vacation after your vacation? I’m still in recovery mode from my trip, which means LOTS OF SNUGGLING with my boys, loads of green veggies, laps around the local pool for movement and sunshine, Vital Proteins Collagen every single day, and being extra mindful of my sugar intake. I finally feel like I’m winning the war on this jet-lag!
These boys have caught the meal planning bug! It sure makes our job easier with two boys who LOVE digging through all our cookbooks and deciding what sounds good for dinners during the week. Meal planning has also taught them how to put together a balanced meal with plenty of veggies (a skill some adults haven’t even mastered!). Including the boys in the kitchen has been one of the most rewarding things we’ve done! See an archive of all our (FREE!) family meal plans —> HERE!
After we had our meal plan in hand last weekend, we headed out to grab groceries and visit Eastern Market, one of our favorite places to explore and have a quick lunch! This is the place that inspired us to make Eastern Market Shrimp Salad. We highly recommend it if you’re local!
Father’s Day Gift Guide!
We can’t live without them- cast iron pans are our absolute favorite for cooking just about anything in! We love that they are SUPER AFFORDABLE. Seriously, a high quality pan that will last a lifetime, for under $20 is a great gift idea!
Now, we might be biased, but we think any guy will appreciate our ode to EVERYTHING PORK, our second book: Beyond Bacon. This book pays homage to the humble hog by teaching you how to make more than a hundred recipes featuring cuts from the entire animal. Dad will love it!
For the dad who loves to cook, or wants to improve his skills in the kitchen, a new set of knives is the perfect way to say, “we appreciate all your home cooked meals, dad!”
We recently got these vegetable peelers for Matt and he literally did a happy dance while taking them out of the box- which is why we HAD TO include them in our list of fun and practical gifts for dad!
For the guy who loves technology and grilled meats: iGrill2, a bluetooth connected thermometer. Keep tabs on your precious steaks and chops from your phone!
Give dad a game for Father’s Day! Superfight has quickly become a new family favorite in our house- it’s a game where you argue over ridiculous fights, and it is great for all levels and ages. The game is simple and we especially love that even our youngest can fully participate in this one! The boys have to use their imagination and their reasoning skills. Plus it’s hilarious!
