While I partner with Beautycounter because I love that every single item has been tested for safety, 9 times for makeup and 8 times for skincare against 23 human health endpoints and contaminants (like carcinogens, endocrine disrupting chemicals, and heavy metals) not to mention sustainability, it’s not the only brand I use. Though I’m not a big fan of shopping around” so I like to get most of mine from my Amazon Favorites list I’m sharing below.
While I know no other brand is doing all the clinical testing to ensure high performance and superb results, which is why it’s the brand I’ve come to rely on for my family, there are some things I still look for from other brands that also are trying to make products better for people and planet.
If you’re just starting out, remember finding quality cleaner cosmetics, personal care, and household items that perform like your beloved brands can be tough, but it can be done! The simplest thing to do is replace your core items. By changing the items you use most frequently, you will lower your toxic load. Remember, we’re all just doing our best and don’t get caught in the perils of perfectionism!

Amazon Favorites
Unfortunately, there are a LOT of options out there but most of them are green-washed. From claims on a label that aren’t accurate or undisclosed ingredients, it’s hard to know what you can trust when moving away from brands entirely dedicated to doing it better. So, how do we narrow it down? I’ve done the work for you!
⚠️ Amazon’s marketplace allows 3rd party resellers and often the seller is not the manufacturing brand. When shopping personal care it’s essential to ensure you’re shopping with the Brand directly because you could receive contaminated, expired, stolen, or otherwise problematic items through an un-authorized reseller.
I have all of my faves on my Amazon Favorites and highly recommend setting up Subscribe & Save when you find something you fall in love with, too. Here are my top highlights:
Face
1 Herbivore’s Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist replaced my beloved Beautycounter Rose Spray Mist when they stopped making it. I tested a LOT of brands and this is the best! I use it under my arms before applying Clean Deo to keep irritation away, throughout the day for a hydrating refresh, or as my Prep step. It is a soothing spray that hydrates with hyaluronic acid and anti-inflammatory organic rose water.
2 I love Odacité Acne Treatment Serum with black cumin when I’m experiencing a breakout.
3 Jane Iredale Mystikol eyeliner, it is user-friendly and can replace your pencil, gel, or liquid liner! A water-resistant powder/cream eyeliner that creates a smoky eye without any mess and has all-day staying power.
4 These EWG-verified Honest Beauty Makeup Remover Facial Wipes are a great alternative if you loved Beautycounter’s discontinued compostable ones. These are plant-based and hypoallergenic, perfect for teens!
Tools
5 Norate Brush Cleaning Mat is made of silicon and makes washing your makeup brushes quick work. I use mine with this Charcoal Cleaning Bar.
6 These Microfiber Cloths are my absolute favorite and I HIGHLY recommend them as a fantastic investment for affordable exfoliation. I’ve had mine for years and they’re still in great shape!
7 This Real Techniques Everyday Essentials Brush & Sponge Kit is a great deal and has all the complexion tools you’ll need.
Body
8 Dr. Bronner’s Organic Shaving Soap is EWG 2 and uses organic, fair-trade ingredients. It’s a great option for those that love a hybrid product. You can shave, cleanse, and hydrate all at once with a multifunctional product!
9 First Honey Manuka Honey Ointment has been our go-to for wound healing for years. The Active Leptospermum is antibiotic-free but effective enough to be used in hospitals. Literally, an ER doc suggested it to us when one of the kids cut themselves badly enough to go to the hospital!
10 I’m picky about a body moisturizer; I want a dry oil that doesn’t leave a greasy residue and has additional benefits. I have fallen in love with a few over time, and right now the Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil with 100% of users seeing an immediate improvement in skin elasticity with less crepey and more firm, smooth, supple skin is it. Plus, all ingredients derive from nature, especially vegan and cruelty-free seaweed.
11 While I think coconut oil is the ultimate natural lubricant, if you’re looking for a water-based one that won’t compromise condoms, the Maude Shine Organic Naturally Hydrating Aloe Vera + Water Based Personal Lubricant is what I recommend.

12 I have been obsessed with Beekeepers Naturals B.LXR Royal Jelly Brain Fuel since I gave up caffeine. This little shot is incredible for your immune health but also helps with clarity and focus. Made with Ginkgo Biloba and Bacopa Monnieri, you can finally get stuff done (without jitters or a caffeine crash)

13 While Beautycounter just launched a 1.5 refillable softening hand washing refill pouch (I LOVE that they have this option), with a full house and frequent hand-washing, I have searched a lot for the most cost-effective clean hand soap. Dental
Earlier this year, I talked to Dr. Parul Dua Makkar on my podcast about the importance of dental care and oral hygiene. I put off going to the dentist for years because of fear and shame. After taking control of my dental care via regular visits to the dentist, I wanted to find way to maintain and reduce toxic load since this stuff literally goes into your mouth.
Sadly, the coating of most dental floss usually contains PFAS and easily absorbs into your bloodstream if you have any gum bleeding.

14 The Humble Co floss picks are plant-based (compostable) and makes flossing a much more enjoyable experience for our family. If you don’t like long string or want to avoid the PFAS or petroleum most floss contains, these are a family-friendly favorite.
15 This Tooth & Gum Tonic (mineral mouthwash) was recommended by our dentist and the whole family loves it!
16 Whether you choose to use flouride or flouride-free toothpaste, after kissing many frogs, our favorite is Burt’s Bees. After years of struggling with my hair through pregnancies, autoimmune disease, and just lack of understanding, I LOVE my hair. So much, I even have a name for her (Stevie) It’s been a lot of trial and error, but I have found a winning combo that works from me and want to highlight some of the simple products that work, in addition to my beloved Vegamour (I use the GRO Shampoo, Conditioner, Clarifying Serum, Hydr8 Leave In Conditioner Spray, and the CBD Dry Shampoo; you can get 20% off your first order with code WHOLEVIEW), I also use:
17 I love Curlsmith Fragrance-free Shine Cream Leave-in-Conditioner for soft hydration. As someone with fine hair (but a lot of it), I can’t use products that are too heavy. If you use the “bowl method”, this conditioner performs especially well.
18 Innersence Organic Beauty I Create Hold Gel is known for it’s non-toxic, cruelty-free clean haircare, but I don’t always love the performance. This specific product has become a favorite of both Matt and I though!
Tools
19 It’s pricey, but my Dry Bar Styling Wand has been worth it. It has cut my styling time way down with the wide barrel, and I haven’t had any hair damage because I ensure it doesn’t burn with the adjustable temperature.
20 I originally got a Shampoo Brush to simply blend in my dry shampoo for extra volume. But, it also helps to increase blood flow with massage and is excellent for exfoliation. It’s a must-have in my opinion!
Finishing
21 If someone needs to dry style their hair to have or hold shape, the Rahua Cream Wax works well.
22 No Nothing Very Sensitive Hairspray is the best cleaner version of hairspray I’ve found. A little goes a long way, so though it’s not the *best* out there, a bottle lasts me more than a year!
Household
22 Lazy Coconuts Laundry Detergent Strips are the plant powered eco-friendly option we are currently using based on reviews and subscribe & save affordability option. They are fragrance-free, paraben-free, phosphate-free, phalate-free, vegan, hypoallergenic, and ultra concentrated. They are entirely plastic-free as well as free of microbeads, entirely biodegradable.
23 Wish I could find Puracy Dishwasher Detergent Pods at the store because with how much my family goes through our subscribe & save seems to never keep up. When we try another free & clear brand from the local store, it just doesn’t work as well. Puracy uses enzymes to deliver “spotless, sparkling, squeaky-clean dishes no matter how hard your water is.”
24 Greenzla Natural Sponges are eco-friendly, plastic-free, biodegradable, and are durable enough for tough scrubbing but non-scratch. They are made from a natural material that helps to eliminate bad odor & dirt unlike traditional plastic sponges and cloths.
Bags
25 Hipposak Tall Kitchen Bags come in 2 forms, we have tried and like both. The Recycled Tall Kitchen Bags Made with OceanBound Plastic are more traditional and you can feel good knowing you helped keep the ocean clean(er) with upcycled with PCR plastic. But, they won’t biodegrade, so we prefer the plant-based option a strong and leak-proof option (Guaranteed Stronger than all leading brands – puncture proof). The Certified Biobased Tall Kitchen Bags with Handles are made from sugar cane instead of fossil fuel; they also use renewable resources to further reduce the carbon footprint.
26 Responsible Products Certified Compostable Resealable Zip Bags are the best thing that our family discovered in 2023. They are extra strength food-safe bags that are made with plants but also freezer safe. Seriously! They come in a Sandwich Bags 50 pack, Quart 25 pack, and Gallon size 15 pack.
Pet
27 We have two flat-face high-maintenance pups. They have food sensitivities and seasonal allergies. We’ve found that giving them a daily “treat” of Finn Allergy & Itch Supplement for Dogs has drastically improved their itch issues.
28 The main brand of “eco-friendly” dog bags is actually not, at all. We recently switched to G.A.S Certified Compostable Dog Poop Bags mostly because of their name and packaging, but we also love they give 10% to charity and are made from leakproof recycled materials.
I also highly recommend this dog seat if you have a center console and needy AF pup *face palm*
