So it’s been a month and I’ve cut the stimulants down to a very minimum. Other than a soda here and there, I’m keeping pretty clean. I thought it would be really hard, but I’m quite surprised at how much better I felt nearly immediately.
As I mentioned briefly, I was drinking a lot of soda and energy drinks and coffee and tea. I was also on two stimulant medicines for depression and ADD. A week into cutting out the soda and energy drinks, I felt a thousand times better. I started actually feeling how tired I was and went to bed earlier. My average bed time was cut from 1:30 AM to 11:00 PM. I then started waking up in a good mood, able to spring out of bed in the morning instead of pretending to be asleep in hopes I could rest longer.
It’s amazing how shielded I was from my own needs. I was literally propped up by drugs, as I would have been sleeping all day if it weren’t for them.
Luckily, the baby started sleeping through the night the second week and I was starting to actually get full night sleep. At the end of the second week my medications ran out and I decided to give it a go without them. The next five days I kept that quiet from Stacy as an experiment. She was shocked I was off meds as she couldn’t detect a difference. To be clear, as a result of less caffeine and more sleep I am now completely off of Adderall and Welbutrin without any withdrawal or negative affects.
Since then, I’ve “relapsed” a few times. It’s amazing: when I “cheat” I can’t go to sleep that night and it ruins the next day for me. I can’t recommend enough giving these things up. Try it for a couple of weeks and let me know how you feel!
