Every Saturday we bring you a blog rendition of some of our favorite things going on this week in our own world and in the paleo world at large in a Weekend Wrap-Up. Every week we will feature our favorite paleo recipes from our archives and from other paleo bloggers that are on our minds lately, as well as a few coupons for products we personally love, and some suggested reading for things we found interesting this week. Let’s do this thing!
Back to School!
This week the boys went up to our local school and met their teachers for this school year. We know that it’s late for most of you, but here in Virginia we’re starting school on Tuesday. We’re definitely going to miss all the time we spent with these fellows this summer! We are headed off to the Lake this weekend for one last Summer Vacation! See you guys on the other side!
Our Favorite Paleo Parents Archive Recipes of the Week:
These days, when we get together for a holiday weekend, the recipes HAVE to be simple. While at one time we might have planned elaborate Paleo celebratory meals, we realized that sometimes the simple recipes are the best, and they also leave time for what really matters – spending time with loved ones. We came up with both of these recipes this summer around holiday weekends, and they are quickly becoming staples for gatherings.Smoked chicken can’t get any easier with our simple recipe that includes a rub made out of common pantry spices that you probably already have! And the recipe for Creamy Ranch Coleslaw is diary-free, and easy to make ahead -in fact it gets better with time! This zesty and crunchy slaw won’t give you an MSG headache like the popular ranch dressing mix. Need a few more ideas to round out the meal? Check out the Paleo BBQ Pot-Luck recipes from this round-up for great ideas for main dishes, sides and desserts that your whole family will love.

We often hear about the physical diseases and medical conditions that can be lessened or even overcome by simply changing diet and lifestyle. Inflammation can contribute so many illnesses from Autoimmune Disorders, Acid Reflux, Type II Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and MS… but what about mental illnesses? Can Depression really be a symptom of inflammation? Depression affects so many, and Chris makes some very good points about the correlation between inflammation issues and depression. Good food can heal the body and the mind, and we see it everyday more and more with our growing movement. This article is definitely worth a good read.
Recommended Products: Lunchbots
We are currently finishing up a top-secret project that we can’t WAIT to share with you guys. I won’t tell you too much right now, but our recommended product of the week might give you a slight hint. Kiddos are heading back to school, or maybe you are just resolving to bring your lunch to work more to cut down on cost and keep your diet clean. We can’t recommend LunchBots containers enough because they have so many different combinations of containers, made with materials you can feel good about.
As much as we are in denial, Russ and family from The Domestic Man are relocating with the Navy to Florida in early October *sad face*. So, what better way to say farwell than with a giant potluck?!
RULE: YOU MUST BRING A DISH FROM THEDOMESTICMAN.COM or HIS BOOK THE ANCESTRAL TABLE (or else bring something to drink) If you make a dish with rice or dairy (even butter) please label it as such for those of us with food intolerances. Labeling nightshades (peppers, spicy herbs, tomatoes, eggplant, and white potato) as well as nuts is super helpful too! Best yet, label the dish with the name and ingredients (if you’re an overachiever).
BONUS! Mickey Trescott from AutoimmunePaleo.com will also be in town – so you’ll have AT LEAST 3 bloggers with cookbooks in attendance. Feel free to bring your books to get signed! Don’t stress out about cooking for us, we’ll likely be the ones to screw something up 😉
Look forward to seeing you all and wishing Russ and family a fond farewell (or perhaps we’ll duct tape them here so they can’t leave). Make sure you RSVP to the party HERE.
