Our Real Life
We had such a blast camping last weekend with friends… and when those friends are The Domestic Man and That Paleo Couple, you know you’re going to be eating well! We all took turns preparing the meals, and when it was ours we grilled up Nom Nom Paleo’s Green Chicken, which is always a hit!
Here’s a shocker: when you drink booze, eat gluten free s’mores, and expose yourself to all kinds of elements your immune system isn’t used to all weekend you MAY end up with a cold that also dual-purposes as an excellent Stevie Nicks impersonation! I’ve been loading up on all the healing, nutrient-dense foods while also napping under my desk between meetings (OK, that only happened once and only because I had to be in the office for said meetings); but the point is – I was focused on resting.
Here’s my list of must haves: probiotics (yogurt & lots of kombucha), peppermint tea, Vital Proteins collagen and liver pills, and broth. And of course veggies for vitamins and minerals. The great news is that I’m already feeling soo much better and almost back to normal!
When our kids need to be reminded what good behavior is, they go on a “points system.” Cole recently has been making a series of bad choices, so he’s earning points by writing about making better choices in the future as well as doing chores that aren’t usually his – like making dinner. He was proud of his “invention” of cheese stuffed hot dogs and a salad with carrots, raisins, pecans, and romaine. Not only does this system teach him consequences of his actions, but it also has the added bonus of empowering, giving him confidence, and encouraging good behavior. It’s taken a long time for us to find a way to “punish” that encourages “rehabilitation” over a spiral of hate – and this one is working out. We recently wrote more about our parenting style and how it’s turning out in this post; we will try to do a point system post soon.
Listen – vegetables are good for you.
I don’t need to reiterate that, right?
If you’re eating a lot of meat, vegetables are the only scientific way to mitigate the carcinogenic properties. So, if you’re on the struggle bus for inventive ideas to find new ways to eat your greens, check out our Everything Salad Tutorial —> HERE!
Our Favorite Products for Easy Summer Salads
If we could suggest one ingredient that will change your salad game… it would be White Balsamic Vinegar. It creates a sweet, rich flavor without added sugars and is our favorite vinegar for using in dressings!
We made our own mayo for years, but we love Chosen Foods Mayo so much (and it has clean ingredients) we typically use it for all our mayo needs now. It’s been a game changer for coleslaw, broccoli salad, and dressings and dips in general.
Tesseamae’s is known for their clean ingredient dressings made with healthy fats- and we absolutely love their honey mustard. We put it on meats and many different types of salad. It’s quick, easy… and a family favorite!
