Below you’ll find the link to 19 FREE RECIPES, how you can get some pretty awesome bonus goodies when you pre-order Well Fed Weeknights (it will be released November 1), and my honest review of the book!
Hi, it’s Crystal, Content Coordinator for the Paleo Parents here! As a real-food loving, homesteading, Paleo-eating blogger, I cook a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. From-scratch dinners are the norm around here- and just like anyone else, some days I enjoy spending time in the kitchen, and sometimes I serve barely warm hot dogs and applesauce for dinner… which is EXACTLY why I love Well Fed Weeknights!
Melissa Joulwan takes something like the simple hot dog, and shows you how to jazz it up (in 8 different ways!) and make it an exciting dinner with tons of flavor and fun- in almost the same amount of time it takes to make a boring hot dog. Tiki Dog? Deli Dog? Tex-Mex Dog? I’ve made all three…
I get the opportunity to review a lot of cookbooks (which I looove!) and I squealed when I got super secret advanced access to Melissa Joulwan’s Well Fed Weeknights.
I know it’s just a cookbook review, but I take this task pretty seriously. We only want to share with you the things that we ABSOLUTELY LOVE. The coconut cream of the crop! When we find something that will enhance your life and make it easier for you to eat good quality food- we get excited to share it. And Well Fed Weeknights definitely meets the criteria!

Here’s what you need to know about Well Fed Weeknights!
This book is special. Obviously written by an expert in healthy food, flavor, and quick cooking- there is no fluff here! These pages are completely loaded with creative recipes, interesting flavor combinations, and endless ways to customize the recipes. This is a cookbook that EVERYONE who values healthy food will love and find useful.
It’s incredibly practical! Somehow, Melissa managed EVERY SINGLE RECIPE to be both simple, yet creative and flavorful- plus all of the recipes can be made in 45 minutes or less! This is the food you want to eat. It’s lots of vegetables and clean proteins that don’t feel like your just eating… well, vegetables and proteins. This book makes healthy eating exciting!
You can’t mess up! These recipes are very fool-proof. You don’t need much (any?) skill in the kitchen to use this book successfully. The helpful hints, and humorous encouragement to adapt the recipes makes you feel like Melissa is right there in the kitchen with you, cheering you on to get dinner on the table before your family gets a case of the hangrys.
I’d even go as far as to say that if you aren’t comfortable in the kitchen, this book will teach you how to cook. If you follow the simple directions outlined in the book, dinner will turn out fantastic.
Oh the personality! I don’t know Melissa personally, and I’m not even that familiar with her first two books: Well-Fed and Well-Fed 2 (they are on my list now though!), but clearly Melissa has a big (and fun!) personality, and it totally comes through in the pages of this book. Everything in this book is fun and approachable.
What I made from Well Fed Weeknights
Pork Schnitzel Meatballs. First up was the Pork Schnitzel Meatballs. And they tasted EXACTLY like Schnitzel, which my German-blooded fiance really appreciated! I won’t give the secret away, but I will tell you that the coating for these meatballs was both delicious and genius! I served the meatballs with Parsley Potatoes (also a recipe from the book!) and a quick side salad.
Moroccan Cabbage Saute. Just the recipe for using up the fresh cabbage and tomatoes we had! The spices in this recipe were all things I already had in the cupboard but hadn’t necessarily put together before. We tend to eat the same things over and over, so this meal was definitely a welcomed change! This was one-pan dinner (as a lot of the recipes in this book are!) so clean up was also easy.
Tex-Mex Hotdogs. The third meal I made from Well Fed Weeknights was the jazzed up hot dogs- we tried a couple different combinations, but our favorite was the Tex-Mex Dogs. It started with a quick guacamole (5 minutes to make). Then I crisped up a few hot dogs in my cast iron pan (5 minutes to heat through). And while the hot dogs were cooking and I put together the Mexican Relish… kind of a cabbage slaw. This was a less than 15-minute dinner!
The best part is that if you aren’t that comfortable making a meal with multiple parts, Melissa tells you exactly what order to do things in to maximize your time and get dinner on the table quickly! This was so simple, and SO MUCH BETTER than my usual boring hot dogs!
I can’t recommend this book enough! It would be a great book to introduce someone to cooking balanced meals with real food. Perfect for someone who wants to cook more but feels stuck on what to make or is in a rut with dinner. And it will help anyone looking to expand their dinner options or simply get dinner on the table quickly and with minimal clean-up!
This book is not only affordable, practical, and gorgeous, but it will:
- make you a better cook
- show you how to prepare a multi-compnent meal in 45 minutes or less, even if you can only boil water
- help you put together a balanced meal with healthy fats, meats and veggies
- put a ton of excitement into your weeknight meals
