Weekend Wrap-Up, 8/23

Every Saturday we bring you a blog rendition of some of our favorite things going on this week in our own world and in the paleo world at large in a Weekend Wrap-Up. Every week we will feature our favorite paleo recipes from our archives and from other paleo bloggers that are  on our minds lately, as well as a few coupons for products we personally love, and some suggested reading for things we found interesting this week. Let’s do this thing!

We’re going to be lifting today!

Today is a big day for us! Stacy is going to be kicking butt and taking names at the Summer Strongman Showdown! If you’re in the area, come on down and watch!

Our Favorite Paleo Parents Archive Recipe of the Week:

Cinnamon Raisin (not) Rice Pudding by Cole

Cinnamon Raisin (not) Rice Pudding by PaleoParents

Although it might be time to head back to school, it is still hot and humid as all get out! These days when we want something for a treat, we have absolutely no desire to turn on the oven and make the house hot, so we love making this Cinnamon Raisin (not) Rice Pudding that can be made simply by combining all the ingredients in a mason jar, shaking it all up, and sticking it in the fridge. Better still – its great cold right out of the fridge! We might eat it warm in the winter time, but in the summer, a spoonful straight out of the fridge hits the spot!

fatface coupon

Skincare made out of tallow and organic, wild harvested essential oils? Sign me up!  Get 15% off  with code: PALEOPARENTS valid 8/22 – 8/24. Our team member, Courtney tried Fat Face products and just LOVED the luscious tallow face creams and body butters:

FATFACE sent me a body care kit to try recently, and I was so excited to receive the package!  I typically use olive oil, honey, and coconut oil as my cleansing routine. These feel great, but olive oil doesn’t really smell great on your face.  Plus my husband jokes that the bathroom looks like the kitchen with all my pantry items on the counter…

So FATFACE is a great alternative! I opened the cleansing oil and was delighted with the fragrant, herbaceous scent of the oil.  Lavender, rosemary, and lemongrass make cleaning your face feel like a spa experience.  It removes make up easily, and leaves your skin feeling hydrated and smooth.  I also really liked the Myrrhaculous face oil which I used with the face cream at night. I used it around my eyes and along my forehead and on my neck for more moisturization.  Again, the fragrance is natural and soothing.  The body buttah was very rich. It’s made from tallow, so it’s really buttery! It worked great on my legs after shaving.  I love that the products are hand made and all natural.  I will definitely keep these products stocked in my bathroom….and keep the olive oil back in the pantry!”

My embarrassing picture went viral by Caitlin Seida

We I saw this article today on facebook shared by Stefani Ruper, of Paleo for Women, it definitely struck a chord with me. Stacy is no stranger to this – she had a picture of her in her underwear go viral not too long ago. Granted, Stacy published this picture on our blog as encouragement to those who have lost a lot of weight, but still struggle with extra skin and judgement from others. Caitlin’s article is a little different in that a picture of her went viral on a site specifically targeting overweight individuals to make fun of them. She took a stand, and personally contacted people via facebook that were making fun of her, asking them to take down defamatory posts. We applaud her efforts in standing up for herself and her body, and her right to have fun no matter what her size is. This article is and incredibly good read, and a lesson to everyone to stop the hate comments about people you don’t even know, and to stop the “fat shaming” as a form of entertainment. It’s deplorable and we need to start accepting that there are individuals that can be “overweight” and healthy too.

In fact, we will recommend another article that is worth a read from the New York Times proving that exact point with science:
