The Paleo View (TPV), Episode 65: Perspective & Change of Attitude

  • 0:00 – Introduction
  • 0:49 – News & Views
    • Stacy and Matt have continued the no TV and video game rule and things continue to be going great, despite working on new BIG projects (wink wink, check social media channels
    • Stacy also recently shared a Strong (wo)Man training update on the blog
    • Sarah’s daughters have been fighting nasty colds, but seem to be out of the thick of it
    • Sarah received the final design of her book this week and is also doing a posture workshop, and is feeling the stress of her hectic calendar – especially with the timeline she has to stick to with the book
    • (15:46) In this week’s show Sarah and Stacy are joined by Vinnie Tortorich, who is outside of the paleo bubble, and doing a lot of great work in the larger health and wellness community on living grain-free and sugar-free in an effort to be healthy and fit
  • 18:11 – Questions & Answers
    • Also known as America’s Angriest Trainer (find his podcast here {is explicit in some episodes}, his book here and his site here), Vinnie has been in the health and wellness industry for thirty years and feels that the industry stole people’s good intentions
    • Vinnie’s message is to not eat sugar or grains and to exercise in moderation – Sarah loves the simplicity of this approach and how easy it is for people to grasp
    • When Vinnie was in college his passion for how the body works and why began, from there he moved into training, but endorsed conventional wisdom with his clients for a stretch of time before finally reaching a breaking point with his own health and battling cancer where he then began to preach what he always knew from the days of his collegiate career
    • For Vinnie he believes that you shouldn’t have beer, wine (except for on occasion), or any liqueurs – you can have your bourbons, vodkas, tequilas, etc. as long as they are alone and a distilled liquor
    • With sugar Vinnie teaches his clients to steer clear of sugar and to manage their hormones
    • The economy of fitness has lost the middle class, there are people at extreme ends of the spectrum with health and wellness – those who are the marathoners and triathlon competitiors and those who are morbidly obese, we seem to have lost the middle representation
    • Stacy shared her opinion on where the middle class representation is in this analogy and why
    • Dr. Robert Lustig just released a wonderful video about the way our country’s health is impacting our country’s well-being
    • Vinnie believes that time/financial investments in fitness are not critical to being healthy, the changes happen with food choices – exercise is an awful way to try to lose weight
    • (57:24) Special thanks again to Vinnie for joining The Paleo View this week – please be sure to check out his book, his podcast, his Facebook page and Twitter feed
  • (57:44) Outro
