Mother’s Day is coming up soon and what better way to celebrate the moms in your life than to treat them to a special homemade meal or gift.

Forget store-bought presents and gift cards; I’d be willing to bet that what most moms want for Mother’s Day is for someone to just take of them for a change. (Well, that and maybe a good night’s sleep.) Perhaps that’s where the tradition of breakfast in bed or Mother’s Day brunch comes from; while husband and kids are busy preparing a delicious meal, mom finally gets to sleep in!

Hosting a small brunch at home can be a really thoughtful way to celebrate Mother’s Day while catching up with friends and family. Keep it simple and prep, assemble and cook as much ahead of time as possible, or just invite guests into the kitchen, put on a pot of coffee and have them lend a hand for a more casual affair. Some of our most cherished memories are made in the kitchen and around the table so make the meal a collaborative effort and let the moms relax for a change with a cup of coffee or a mimosa.

Whether you’re making mom breakfast in bed, treating her to brunch or want to surprise her with a special dessert or edible gift this year, I’ve put together a collection of recipe ideas that are sure to please. (Just make sure you do the dishes afterwards.)

And if you’re a mom then just hand this list to your family or leave it up on your computer screen until someone gets the hint!

Breakfast in Bed:

Treat mom to a stack of All Day I Dream About Food’s light and fluffy coconut flour pancakes.

… or fresh4five’s nut-free and coconut-free waffles made using ground raw sunflower seeds and arrowroot flour.

There’s nothing more tempting than the scent of The Urban Poser’s cinnamon rolls in the air especially when they are gluten-free and grain-free like.

Healthful Pursuit’s Caramel apple doughnuts sound pretty amazing with a cup of coffee.

If mom’s not a coffee drinker then make her a cup of Gourmande in the Kitchen’s spiced turmeric tea (just omit the persimmon if it’s not in season).

… and serve her a slice of Gourmande in the Kitchen’s pear almond clafoutis to go with that cup of tea.

… or maybe Nom Nom Paleo’s dark chocolate and cherry scones.

Easy Brunch Ideas:

Start by setting out a platter of lightly steamed veggie and hardboiled eggs with Gourmande in the Kitchen’s herb aioli for guests to nibble on.

This easy to make egg casserole from Everyday Maven would be great for a crowd.

… serve it with Gourmande in the Kitchen’s sweet potato galette on the side or these sweet potato latkes from Everyday Paleo.

Or stack them all together in My New Root’s veggie egg tower.

These thin spinach and herb omelettes from Gourmande in the Kitchen are quick to whip up.

Bread pudding is always a favorite, especially when it’s Paleo Parent’s French Toast Cinnamon Bread Pudding.

Pair fresh strawberries and an easy make-ahead lemon coconut cream with these parfaits from Gourmande in the Kitchen.

Special Desserts:

Wow mom with this gorgeous Brown Butter Harvest Cake with Vanilla Nut Creme from Tartine and Aprine Strings that is gluten-free, grain-free, lactose-free, refined sugar-free.

…or this killer Cashew Carrot Cake with Cashew Coconut Buttercream from Wicked Good Kitcken.

Roost’s beautiful layered Strawberry Cake with Swiss Meringue Cream is sure to leave a lasting impression.

…and since strawberries are in season, why not also make her this elegant strawberry tart from Deliciously Organic.

…or if chocolate is more her thing, then consider a Chocolate Date Caramel Walnut Tart from Gourmande in the Kitchen instead.

Edible Gifts:

What mom can resist a box of Against all Grain’s homemade mandarin chocolate truffles?

…or A Girl Worth Saving’s  Coffee Macadamia Nut Toffee.

Save a couple of these Cocoa Dusted Maple Glazed Walnuts from Gourmande in the Kitchen for yourself because they won’t last long!

Slim Palate’s salty and sweet dark chocolate bark with nuts and nibs is sure to be a family favorite.

These honey sweetened nutty bites from Gourmande in the Kitchen are dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt.

For more chocolate covered goodness, chocolate covered strawberries from Fresh Family Cooking are a classic.

Wishing you all a wonderful Mother’s Day!
