Every Saturday we bring you a blog rendition of some of our favorite things going on this week in our own world and in the paleo world at large in a Weekend Wrap-Up. Every week we will feature our favorite paleo recipes from our archives and from other paleo bloggers that are on our minds lately, as well as a few coupons for products we personally love, and some suggested reading for things we found interesting this week. Let’s do this thing!
So, with Stacy about to head off to San Francisco for the Ancestral Health Symposium, the family decided we ought ot spend some time together as a vacation. We loaded up the car and headed to Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg! For those that haven’t heard of this place, it’s essentially a family resort with the centerpiece of an indoor water park. The kids really enjoy our time there!
We of course made sure to pack many healthy snacks, like apple chips and pork rinds. Just because we’re on vacation doesn’t mean we have to give up healthy eating entirely, after all!
We even packed food for lunches, like hot dogs, salads, oranges, eggs and olives.
But the most fun was certainly running through the water like this little guy! Wes loves to run through the fountains and splash around, while the bigger ones prefer water slides.
We spent time in the arcade where Cole is an excellent shooter and Finn can ride motorcycles.
All in all, it was an excellent time spent together!
After all this fun at Great Wolf Lodge, Stacy (finally, after lots travel mishaps, delayed and cancelled flights) got on a plane to head to the Ancestral Health Symposium 2014. In case you missed our last quick newsletter, here is her schedule for the long weekend:
Our Favorite Paleo Parents Archive Recipe of the Week:
A couple years ago when we took another trip to Great Wolf Lodge, we came up with this recipe to take for road food in the car, and they were a big hit! If we had time this week we would have sent Stacy with a whole bag full for her trip to Ancestral Health Symposium. They are great because they are packed with protein and don’t have to be refrigerated, plus they are nut-free and autoimmune friendly!
The Best New Recipes in Paleo of the Week:
Just a few short years ago, paleo recipes were hard to find, but now there is such an abundance of great, real-food blogs. We hope you enjoy them!

You may have seen that Stacy posted a picture on Instagram saying, “A couple days ago I let the boys go shopping on @onestoppaleoshop with about $20 to spend each. Yesterday a box with all their #paleo goodies arrived and they’re over the moon about getting to make their own choices and all the healthy snacks they now have. Cole chose Lamb Mint @epicbar and @gochomps stick with Pizza Flax Crackers and a berry trail mix. Wesley chose Simple Mills banana muffin mix and a trail mix with Brazil nuts (Daddy’s favorite). I got a few @rxbar to try now that I can do egg and a new Hazelnut bar by @epicbar . Finn (not surprisingly) got chocolate @paleonola and @hailmerrysnacks with a new jerky from Sophia’s Survival Foods grass-fed jerky chews made with raising purée as a sweetener. If you are trying to get your kids to eat #paleo, letting them shop on their own like this will empower and excite them – win win and fun!! #paleokids ” The cool cavepeople at OneStopPaleoShop.com gave us an exclusive coupon discount for 15% off your next order on their site with coupon code: PALEOPARENTS .
So most of the time, if you want a completely paleo meal, with seasonal produce and humainly sourced pastured and grassfed meats, with the right balance of nutrients, you have to cook it yourself at home. Stacy loves the fun socks from thesoxbox.com and she snagged you this discount code for 5% off your order with code: “stronglikestacy” (plus 20% goes to wounded veterans!).
This isn’t a new article from Chris Kresser, author of Your Personal Paleo Code, but it is one that is really worth re-visiting and reading. Our whole family has been traveling a LOT this summer, and these guidelines really keep us on track. Stacy left for the Bay Area yesterday for the Ancestral Health Symposium, and she definitely faced some traveling stresses. Check out this instagram selfie that Stacy took in the terminal:
“Waiting for a new plane in the bottom of a squat. #thesagacontinues #iwillgetthereeventually #makethebestofit #ahs14 #ahs2014”
