Fall in (self) Love: my Top Beautycounter Limited Edition Holiday Picks (spoiler, it’s Butterbeer Lips 🍺)

Listen, I don’t need a holiday to celebrate BUTTERBEER LIPS & LOTUS GLOWING SKIN! But, maybe you do? Either way, the weather is finally turning cold here and I’ve got holidays on my mind. OK, no I don’t. Of course I have Halloween on my mind! It’s too early for thinking about gifting, but the perfect time to start testing out what I love to consider what I’ll wanna give!

It’s also October. October is Breast Cancer Awareness, Liver and Lung Health, and Infertility and Infant Loss month. Thus, we want to talk one of the factor that contributes to all of those health conditions. Removing personal care products that contain harmful chemicals directly linked to cancer, hormone disruption and increased toxic loads from heavy metals has been shown in science to improve health within 3 days.

OUR ENVIRONMENT IS MAKING US SICK!

With my mom’s discovery of her biological family, I gained numerous new relatives and a family history of cancer (every woman in our family has had it except my mom and I). I also have known several people to undergo treatment for breast cancer this year. I feel like we are all aware cancer exists at this point, but more and more we’re finding that what’s around us is contributing to it’s prevalence. Even these women’s doctors told them to switch to safer personal care products during treatment. Yet the preventative recommendations aren’t being given!

Breast Cancer: Eating right and exercising isn’t the only thing you can do to prevent cancer. There are thousands of carcinogenic compounds in your environment; 85% of women with breast cancer were not genetically disposed. The only way to reduce your risk is to limit your exposure as much as possible! Did you know 99% of breast cancer cells have parabens in them? Yet most American “hygiene” products contain them! That’s just one of numerous ingredients Beautycounter has banned to ensure their products are safe from carcinogens, hormone disruption, and heavy metal contamination. Because just 40 year ago 1 in 20 women had breast cancer, as opposed to the 1 in EIGHT today.

Healthy Lung & Liver: Helping people understand how powder makeup, especially, can be toxic has become my biggest passion in helping people. This in-depth blog post details how powders and things we put on our lips are even worse than the standard “your skin is your largest organ” statement. In fact, what we inhale or eat bypasses a number of the protective barrier our skin provides – which increases risk tremendously when your liver can’t detoxify for you! Powder cosmetics are absolutely inhaled, and cosmetics which are put on your lips are ingested.

Infertility: Increased cases of infertility [insert stat] have been steadily on the rise in the US. Everything from our diet, our sedentary habits, lack of sleep, and products we use play a role. I have heard countless stories from the community of women who changed their lifestyle and regained fertility. I will never tire of hearing it! The good news is, studies have shown that build-up of harmful chemicals can exit the body quickly. Plus, our bodies naturally adjust to other changes, aiding in hormones regaining regulation. With education, we can improve these statistics!

Here are two quotes I find highly relevant when it comes to using cosmetics that have been both safely sourced and tested to ensure that hormone disruption doesn’t occur.

The main route of exposure is the skin, but the main endpoint of exposure is endocrine disruption. This is due to many substances in cosmetics and sunscreens that have endocrine active properties which affect reproductive health but which also have other endpoints, such as cancer. [ source]

Researchers provided teen study participants with personal care products labeled free of chemicals such as phthalates, parabens, triclosan and oxybenzone… Analysis of urine samples before and after a three-day trial in which the participants used the lower-chemical products found significant drops in levels of these chemicals in the body. IN SUMMARY

Here’s a list of ingredients we avoid (full details on why can be found in this Teen Skincare post): Parabens, Fragrance, Phthalates, Triclosan, Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), Formaldehyde and Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (FRP’s), Toluene.

Carcinogen refers to any of the above ingredients (containing heavy metals or hormone disrupting chemicals) which are shown to increase probability of cancer. source: read more from the blog post, Why Cleaner Cosmetics Matter here

What to use instead?

Of course you know I love Beautycounter because they’re the only brand I’m aware of that tests against 23 human health endpoints and conducts 8 tests for skincare and 9 tests for makeup (prior to getting in your hands) to ensure safety while still delivering high performance products. But, clean beauty isn’t cheap beauty. Beautycounter bundles these holiday sets so they are one of the most affordable ways to try Beautycounter. Especially with their loyalty program, where you get a free gift free shipping, and 10% product credit back! So what are my favorite products from holiday that I recommend to try and save yourself some money?

My top picks:

As always, I’ve put in the work for you. Recently, I’ve been
testing, using, and hoarding these items in my pockets, purses, car, nightstand, and vanity (Jellies, I’m looking at you) AND doing some ridiculous amount of math on per ounce prices. I’ve OFFICIALLY got my top picks for YOU as well as the best deals and best sets to break up and gift this season.

The Jellies. SQUEE – cue memories to childhood and something fun and innovative in the clean beauty space! Legit one of my favorite beauty products ever – EVER. And it’s SAFER with no fake fragrance – ingredients include vanilla and stevia for both a scents and flavors. Included are Butterscotch (my fave), Sorbet (a pink), and Creme de Menth (think Peppermint patties, with a high shine sparkly finish)! At only $39 for 5 these are my TOP holiday pick, and I’ll be gifting them to EVERYONE I know. In fact, every single person I’ve showed them too lights up with excitement and says, “these are Beautycounter?!”

Starlight Eyeshadow Palette. Not originally on my radar, these colors are absolute perfection. I genuinely think they would work for nearly everyone. Plus at $36 it’s a great way to try Beautycounter tested and certified heavy-metal safe pigmented powders at significantly less than the normally $50 palettes.

Pout Perfecter Lip Care Set.  One of the top product requests I hear about all the time is a lip conditioner in a stick. Now it’s here! This reminds me of Fresh’s Sugar balm, only without “fragrance.” It combines a lip polish and a clear gloss for a trio perfect for cooler weather!

Rosewood Lip Trio. The cult-favorite color that made its way from prior years’ holiday glosses to the permanent line up is now in a mini lip sheer and intense lipstick trio. Normally these items would be $95, but now you can try them all in a flattering neutral for all skin types for $49.

Counter+ Skincare Favorites.  The BEST skincare deal with customer favorite hero products: Overnight Resurfacing Peel, Charcoal Mask, Brightening Facial Oil, and NEW Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm Stick. I can’t speak highly enough of how bright and radiant the Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm makes my skin. And the value is over $200 for only $89!

HONORABLE MENTION:

  • Fresh Faced Trio includes a Jelly, the brow gel I love (clear color) and Lengthening Mascara. While I myself love the grey coverage of the colored gel and Volumizing Mascara, this is a great set for someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup or a teen.
  • Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm, this size saves you $25 – and I #cantstopwontstop with how much I love this after the peel for bright, glowing skin.
  • Hand Cream Trio & Body Butter makes great gifts to break up and give to teachers and other service providers!

THE OTHER NEW SETS:
