Key Takeaways – Cancer Prevention w/ Dr. Katie Deming, MD
Introductions
- Dr. Katie Deming completed her medical training at Duke University in North Carolina. She spent 16 years as a radiation oncologist and healthcare leader within a large integrated healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest.
- A few years ago she had a “shard death” experience, similar to a near-death experience, that changed everything. She left traditional oncology and now blends her knowledge of conventional medicine with holistic practices and ancient wisdom to address the hidden roots of cancer and activate the body’s innate capability to heal.
- Featured on the Huffington Post, Business Insider and her own Born to Health podcast, she bridges the gap between Eastern,Western, and ancient systems to reclaim radiant health and well-being.
Cancer & Disease Prevention
Your body hasn’t failed you. The fact that this has presented itself Is your body’s way of saying, ‘hey, you need to pay attention to me, I need something I’m not getting’. – Dr. Katie Deming
- The modern industrial life is not good for our health, and the stress and pace of our modern lifestyle is one of the big contributors to disease. We are designed to be in balance and when we’re not, cancer can be manifestation of that.
- Generally, cancer is an imbalance of increased toxicity and lower immune function. A small percentage is genetics. Even if you have a pre-disposition, not everyone develops cancer.
- Dr. Deming says this is one of the things that she always wants people to understand: It wasn’t one thing that caused cancer or any other modern illness, it’s usually a convergence of multiple things that are coming together. And when we’re running around nonstop, not sleeping well, and doing more than our body can handle, we lose the reserve of healing potential in the body, and it stresses the immune system
- And, it’s important to consider the energy and intention with which you are trying to take care of yourself. Dr. Deming says her experience is that she finds people doing things like eating a diet you think is going to prevent cancer, but doing it out of a lot of fear, which causes stress on the body. So it’s not just things that we do, but the way that we’re doing them.
- Progress over perfection, we do the best we can. There are things we can’t change in our environment. The worrying is more problematic than the toxic substance itself, and our mindset matters!
Cancer & Disease Treatment
- Cancer is part of you, so it’s crucial to love and trust your body even when you think it’s let you down.
- Chemotherapy and radiation kill cancer cells in a logarithmic fashion. They decrease cancer cells but do not get rid of them completely. The immune system can take care of small amounts of cancer. However, Dr. Deming says that if don’t do anything to help your body clear out toxins after all these treatments, your body may not be able to do what it’s supposed to do.
- You can’t do the same things and expect different results. You’re going to do better if you slow down and create more space when you are going through treatments.
