Stacy’s Weekly Wrap-Up, May 25th: Rachel Cargle’s Book Tour + Antiquing with Mom

It’s been so nice to be home in my little corner of the country! Since we spent Spring Break in North Carolina with mom (aka Gigi), she came to visit us to celebrate a belated Mother’s Day at the 23rd Annual Lucketts Spring Market to go antiquing! While waiting for mom to arrive, I spent an evening at a book celebration tour for Rachel Cargle in D.C. with kiddo.

Conversation & Book Celebration with Rachel Cargle

It was such an honor having activist and author Rachel Cargle on The Whole View Podcast to discuss her newest book, A Renaissance of Our Own: A Memoir & Manifesto on Reimagining. When I found out she was coming to D.C. and discussing her book with Well-Read Black Girl Founder & bestselling author, Glory Edim, I immediately got a ticket!

It was incredibly powerful to listen to the two of them have a conversation. And, I even got to meet Rachel in person (she’s so tall!)

I gave her a big Beautycounter thank you gift for joining me on my podcast! I want to work to inspire more women of color to use safer personal care, and we continue to fight for health protective laws that disporportionaly harm them. Ky Washington and I talk more about that on a podcast episode about Toxic Beauty Standards.

Luckett’s Spring Market

Antiquing with Mom

The annual Lucketts Spring Market has it all – vintage items, live bands, food trucks, and so much more, boasting over 200 vendors from around the country! We’re so lucky that it’s practically in our backyard!

Thank goodness we were here for two full days- there was SO MUCH to look at. And that I did! I’m learning to say “I don’t need this, but I’m glad it exists in the world”.

What I Came Home With

I did find a few things I deemed worthy to leave with. Firstly, this beautiful Spring-colored hat had my name on it! It’s been so fun implementing what I learned from my Color Analysis and this hat hit all the right notes!

I was also inspired by my podcast episode with The Women Who Quit (Alcohol) to purchase some distilled non-alcholic botanicals for some future mocktails! This will be fun treat for summer celebrations and relaxing evenings at home.

History Lessons & Recovery

Kiddo and Wesley even joined over the weekend! Wesley thrived here and unquestionably outspent all of us. He had so much fun examining all the old globes and maps. Plus, we all got a history-through-geography lesson throughout the day.

Of course I also found my way over to the food vendors and cooled off with this amazing Kotei Kids Shaved Ice – it’s organic, vegan, and gluten-free with no dyes!

We wrapped up Gigi’s Mother’s Day weekend with some relaxing indoors and family movie night! If you can’t tell, Gus and Penny were happy to have everyone home.
