What a year! I honestly can’t believe 2022 is actually it’s over and a new year is here. I hope you all had an amazing holiday season, no matter what you celebrate, and are heading into a smooth start to the new year (and any resolutions you may have)! The end of December gets crazy, so in case you missed it here’s all the New Years shenanigans that’ve been going on at my house!
Happy New Year!
We celebrated NYE by “being on vacation” and continued our annual tradition by pretending we were at an AirBnB! The kids were allowed to rent a movie, play in the game room, enjoy the hot tub, eat junk food, and not worry about chores.
I started off 2023 with one word: pleasure. I wasn’t enjoying the music or commercials so we turned off the NYE show and I read my book until 20 minutes before midnight. The kids all came in (+2 friends) and we shouted Rabbits Rabbits at midnight, cheersing, or smooching. We even found “rose” sparkling grape juice.
I had an absolutely fantastic 2022 and 2023 is going to be a good year, too. I can feel it already!
New Years Resolutions!
If you’ve hung around me for a while, you know I’m less about “resolutions” and more about sustainable lifestyle changes. I just did an entire podcast with the wonderful Nina Manolson where we talked all about popular New Years resolutions, why they often fail, and how you can set yourself up for success this year.
No resolution? I’ve got one to consider! Reducing my alcohol consumption to nearly none has been one of the best things I’ve done for my health. Alcohol can to shrink brain volume, lower blood flow to the brain, and increase overall risk of dementia. It also increases your risk of getting sick as it weakens your immune system!
I strongly believe I would not have gotten the flu last month had I not had alcohol multiple times. So, Dry January is no joke. If you decided not to make resolutions this year, that’s great! However, if you’re looking for a lifestyle change, look into your alcohol consumption to see if you have room for a sustainable change!
