Product Review & Discount Code: Rickaroons and YAWP bars

Since we began Paleo Parents, we’ve been increasingly and routinely asked to review books and products by people in and adjacent to the paleo community. At this point, we get so many we are unable to actually do the reviews of the products in a timely manner! That’s why we recruited the Paleo Parents Review Team to fill in the gaps.

Today we are pleased to have Paleo Parents Review Team member Amelia review Rickaroons and YAWP!. Keep your eyes peeled for a special discount code at the end!

I am a huge fan of cooking and baking my own treats, but sometimes, I just need something that’s ready to go. Whether I’m traveling, getting home from a long day, or simply in a mood, it’s nice to have a treat on hand when you want one.

Such items are in short supply as a Paleo eater, and for good reason. We don’t want junk lying around the house temping us away from our good intentions, do we? Thankfully, there are some brilliantly creative folks out there looking to fill this need want.

Enter Rickaroons and YAWP!. I had the wonderful opportunity to try both of these products, happy to know that they’re not only tasty, but also made from ingredients I can feel good about.

Rickaroon Bite

The Rickaroons were the first to arrive and I dove right in. The Origiroons were my favorite right out of the gate. They are a perfect cross between two of my all-time faves: the Paleo Parents’ Chocolate Chip Macaroons and the Food Lovers’ Chocolate Chip Cookies. The texture is somewhere right in between the two and the taste is simply delicious. I refused to share these with anyone!

The other flavors were also good, but too busy for my simple palette. They were a hit with friends, though, all of whom missed out on the Origiroons due to my hoarding.  I should also mention that even though I absolutely loved these little dollops of yum, I did not feel the urge to eat them all at once, which normally happens when I eat prepared treats. Eating one on its own was a totally rich and satisfying experience and I was thrilled to save the rest for another day.

Yawp in the Box

The YAWP bars were a completely different thing. Everything from the packaging and box they came in, to the rustic hearty appearance, told me these were going to be filling and uncomplicated. I particularly liked the little packet of the loose ingredients demonstrating how unprocessed the product really is. Unlike the Rickaroons, which were more of a dessert, these bars were the perfect on-the-go snack. They went right into my purse for the inevitable moments of hunger that crop up at inopportune moments when out and about. The YAWP bars came in handy on several occasions and I felt good about the choice to eat them.

Bar on the Road - Yawp

That’s all well and good, but do they taste good?

Yes. I loved the blend of various nuts and seeds with just enough date to hold them together. The  texture was perfect for a crunchy granola bar type experience and the touch of sweetness was subtle and just enough to make them taste good but not like candy. I would recommend YAWP! to anyone looking for quick-at-hand snacks (other than those with issue with nuts, of course).
