Why we’re not Paleo-perfectionists! Plus travel snacks and what we’re loving this week!

Confession: we eat ice cream! Why we’re not Paleo-perfectionists and more in this week’s newsletter!

Our family has been hit by the Pokemon-Go bug (a game that has you literally running all over looking for Pokemon!). The boys have been into Pokemon for a long time, and we love that this game is another reason to get out of the house and go for long walks- like to Del Ray Pizzeria for our favorite breakfast pizza!

If you follow us on Facebook, you might have caught a glimpse of some MAJOR DRAMA surrounding my working lunch of microwaved grass-fed burgers and peas. You can see all the details over on Facebook if you’d like, but here is the take-away message:

1. Paleo doesn’t have to be a lot of work. This meal took me THREE MINUTES to prepare at the office.

2. We sometimes eat peas (a legume!), rice (a grain!), and ice cream (dairy!) because after six years of following this lifestyle, we know what works and doesn’t work for our family to feel good, maintain health, and enjoy life. And we encourage you to figure that out for yourself as well!

3. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good! Especially for new and busy families the idea of Paleo perfectionism scares people away (this is why we wrote Real Life Paleo). The guilt of not being able to do it or afford it means they don’t try at all. The more we can welcome the idea that perfection isn’t needed to be considered “Paleo” or to feel your best, the more people we will get to join our lifestyle – which in time will lead to better choices, and higher quality food available to more people!

Liquid nitrogen paleo ice cream, Why we're not Paleo-perfectionists! Plus travel snacks and what we're loving this week! |Paleo Parents

Case in point: we found a new ice cream shop using grass-fed cream and real whole ingredients to make ice cream right before our eyes with liquid Nitrogen! Our science-loving boys were COMPLETELY CAPTIVATED. Wesley even exclaimed how it was the “most special day ever because we Pokemon Go’d and got to see science and make magical food.” To us, this is a wonderful treat that fits within our Paleo template. They even had Banana Whip (just frozen whipped banana) which was strict Paleo, Vegan, dairy-free and even AIP-compliant… and so good!

I’m so excited to finally be feeling better and able to be active again (hello, long Poke-walks to fun destinations!). I made a tough decision to forgo a spinal injection and focused on the supplement protocol that we discussed on a recent Paleo View episode. I’m feeling soooo much better- thanks for all your well wishes! Taking walks, flipping tires, and inverting has never felt so good!

What We’re Loving This Week!

We own a lot of cookbooks, but The Domestic Man’s Paleo Takeout remains one of our all-time favorites. The recipes in this book have a way of remaining simple but producing the most incredible flavors. All of your take-out favorites are in it! And if you want to check it out before you buy, you can preview (with pictures!) the entire recipe index —> HERE! (Just click the photo to “look inside.”)

Paleo must haves, Why we're not Paleo-perfectionists! Plus travel snacks and what we're loving this week! |Paleo Parents

Our #1 kitchen essential: the cast iron pan. It’s cheap (seriously, under $20!), will last a lifetime, and it makes food taste incredible. We can’t wait to share this week’s meal plan with you, because it involves lots of food cooked in cast iron pans. Stay tuned for that one, and in the meantime break out the cast iron and get cooking! Don’t have one? Get one —> HERE!

We’re headed off for a week in Florida at Harry Potter Land (Wes’s dream come true) and are making the long drive with plenty of Paleo snacks in tow… including lots of goodies from our Paleo To Go Box from One Stop Paleo Shop! Did you know this box has a discoun built in to it? Find it —> HERE!
