Every Saturday we bring you a blog rendition of some of our favorite things going on this week in our own world and in the paleo world at large in a Weekend Wrap-Up. Every week we will feature our favorite paleo recipes from our archives and from other paleo bloggers that are on our minds lately, as well as a few coupons for products we personally love, and some suggested reading for things we found interesting this week. Let’s do this thing!
This week Stacy has been at the gym almost every day in preparation for her upcoming competition next Saturday. The work has certainly paid off as she’s been hitting new personal bests left and right – like this huge, awkward, heavy steel frame that she couldn’t lift a couple months ago!
In addition to the extra training, Stacy has also added a new carb cycling eating routine to the mix. It’s been a weird transition for all of us as we learn how to specifically seek out carbohydrates again! It’s also resulted in Stacy taking multiple lunch bags to work every day to hold all her various meals.
You can read about what she’s doing both in the gym and with her food here. We joke about it at our house, calling her yogurt and protein powder her gainz, as in “Did you make sure to give me all my gainz?”
We hope, and trust, that it’ll all be worth it when Stacy makes the podium next week and earns her ticket to Nationals!
Our Favorite Paleo Parents Archive Recipe of the Week:
We’ve got the 21 Day Sugar Detox on the brain this week, and our famous Easy Peasy Pancakes are #21DSD Compliant! It took Matt many many tries to get this recipe perfect, but once he did, it became a BIG staple in our house. They are light, fluffy, and just PERFECT! If you are on the 21 Day Sugar detox, you can enjoy these with some warmed almond or sunbutter on top. Not on the detox? You can also certainly enjoy these with some Organic Grade B Maple Syrup if you’re not on a sugar and they’re fantastic! (Grade B has more nutrients and vitamins than Grade A!)

Maca root is a terrific supplement that helps increase strength and endurance and many other additional benefits. Stacy started taking it when she started getting serious about her training and we settled on The Maca Team brands because they are organic and include all three varieties of maca in an easy to digest gelatinized form. We’ve been using Maca Team maca powder for about a month now in Stacy’s morning smoothies and we love it!
Through July 18 through the 25th, you can get 15% off your purchase from The Maca Team with a special discount code we snagged for our readers! Use code: STRONG at checkout when you shop through our affiliate link: http://bit.ly/TheMacaTeamStore
So most of the time, if you want a completely paleo meal, with seasonal produce and humainly sourced pastured and grassfed meats, with the right balance of nutrients, you have to cook it yourself at home. And shop for all the ingredients. And clean up all the dishes…. Sometimes it can just be too much. For those times that you just need a break, we highly suggest you check out PetesPaleo.com . Pete Servold is the classically trained chef behind this meal order service, and he does all the hard work for you. You can completely trust that your meals are prepared up to your standards, from farm fresh, seasonal ingredients and in addition, they are delivered to your door. All you have to do is heat them up. They even come in larger sizes for athletes. This meal service is perfect for busy weeks or hectic times in life, like after the birth of a baby! Each week you can see the menu online, and you can even add on snacks and supplements if you want. You can also get 5% off total order with the code ‘thepaleoview’ using our affiliate link here: http://bit.ly/eatpetespaleo
You might have noticed that Stacy loves to wear High Knee Sock while she is training for StrongWoman. They protect her shins, and they are also fun because of all the cool things you can say with just your socks! Stacy loves the fun socks from thesoxbox.com and she snagged you this discount code for 5% off your order with code: “stronglikestacy” (plus 20% goes to wounded veterans!).
Reading, I mean, WATCHING
Usually we recommend a great article or book for you to read to learn something new, or brush up on a topic that you might have forgotten when it comes to healthy eating and paleo. This week we highly recommend the first two videos in a FREE SERIES from Diane Sanfilippo about sugar, why we crave it and 3 places that it likes to “hide.” Diane is about to re-release her online program, The 21 Day Sugar Detox, and we are so excited that she is! This time we have collaborated with her team to contribute a whole eBook of 21 Day Sugar Detox compliant Paleo Parents recipes to add to her program! You can read more about it in this post, but you can watch these two FREE videos to get you started here.
Recommended Product of the Week
21 Day Sugar Detox compliant Pure Indian Ghee
If you are thinking about starting a 21 Day Sugar Detox, you might want to get your hands on some Pure Indian Foods Ghee! If you are used to cooking with whole butter, Ghee is a great substitute that Diane has given the thumbs up as a 21 Day Sugar Detox acceptable cooking fat. You can also stir a spoonful into your coffee, giving it a rich, caramel, nutty flavor and and added boost of nutrients!
