Weekend Wrap-Up, 5/31

Every Saturday we bring you a blog rendition of some of our favorite things going on this week in our own world and in the paleo world at large in a Weekend Wrap-Up. Every week we will feature our favorite paleo recipes from our archives and from other paleo bloggers that are  on our minds lately, as well as a few coupons for products we personally love, and some suggested reading for things we found interesting this week. Let’s do this thing!

Our Favorite Paleo Parents Archive Recipe of the Week:

 Creamy Coconut Chocolate Chip Macaroons

Did you know that TODAY (Saturday) is National Macaroon Day? What an awesome food holiday! This is an EXTREMELY POPULAR recipe of ours that is super easy to make, kid friendly, and full of healthy coconut. It super easy to whip up a batch, and the dough is just as good as the cookies. Plus, it’s EGG-FREE AND NUT-FREE – our 3 boys love this one!

The Best New Recipes in Paleo of the Week:

Honeyville Farms Summer Savings! Our favorite brand of Almond Flour!

honeyville sale

Need to stock up on blanched almond flour? We specifically wait for great specials like these to come around to buy our favorite brand of fine, blanched almond flour from Honeyville Farms.  It really does have a superior quality, and produces moist, flavorful baked paleo items, and because it is more finely ground than almond meal, the texture of the baked goods is awesome!

They protect her shins, and they are also fun because of all the cool things you can say with just your socks! Stacy loves the fun socks from thesoxbox.com and she snagged you this discount code for 5% off your order with code: “stronglikestacy” (plus 20% goes to wounded veterans!).

Mark’s Daily Apple: Self Experiment, No Alcohol for 45 Days and Counting

keep calm jpg.

This past week I read this post by Mark Sisson, of Mark’s Daily Apple about his self experiment with abstaining from alcohol. I (Stacy) haven’t really been drinking any alcohol in almost 6 months because I have noticed it really does affect my Strongman training at the gym. I really liked Mark’s honest approach and self reflection on the subject, from how it has improved his digestion to his sleep. He doesn’t give it up for good really, but he just reserves it for special occasions, instead of indulging nightly in a glass of wine as a method to wind down and relieve some stress. Personally, I have switched that near-nightly glass of wine into a pretty glass cup filled with kombucha and focused on healthy choices as often as I can (instead of justifying to myself that chocolate and wine have antioxidants). I have found that when I lift heavy things, it really eases my stress levels, and motivates me to eat clean and stay away from alcohol and treats, which is really helping me heal my gut and continue to progress with alleviating my autoimmune symptoms.

Organic Kombucha SCOBY Mother + Free Organic Starter Tea Included by Get Kombucha

kombucha starter kit

We used to be in the habit of brewing our own kombucha, and we are starting up again because it is such a great way to save money! With all of the wonderful fruits that are coming in season, we can create our own flavors of kombucha with the help of an organic starter kit. This is a great kit to start with! Stacy has also found that sipping a glass of kombucha in a wine glass at night helps her unwind just the same as a glass of wine would, as it kind of simulates the ritual.
