Picnic Time! Recipes & Resources for Dining Al Fresco

Picnic Time! Recipes & Resources for Dining Al Fresco

It was one cold, snowy winter, and we are ready to shake off those chilly memories and embrace the warm weather that has arrived! We are already writing lists of all we want to do this spring and summer (you-pick-farms, the beach, hiking trails, and SO MUCH MORE), and foresee a lot of mini road-trips in our future, especially since we greatly enjoyed our recent mega road-trip to Florida!

Our biggest trick to keeping frequent outings and mini-trips affordable is to pack a picnic, plus we get to avoid the headache that is often associated with finding healthy options that fit our needs. Below is a list of the resources and recipes that we utilize when planning to dine alfresco! (simply click the links to be taken to the source)

It wouldn’t be a picnic without the perfect basket! In our case, however, since we always travel with so much perishable food (fruits, veggies, meat), we need something like this sweet insulated market basket cooler. Oh, and don’t forget to keep those glass water bottles close at hand as well! And finally, what would a picnic be without the perfect picnic blanket – this is the one we keep in our trunk for such occasions.

Now for the food!  We have already blogged a lot about our favorite kids’ lunch containers (read about them here) we love to use the same Goodbyns when we are packing a picnic together as a family too! We also love avocado keepers and reusable snack bags for keeping all of our favorites organized!

PICNIC MENU

For the more spontaneous outings we often grab what we have on hand. Here are some of the items that we keep ready for quick grab’n’go eats:

  • Carrots/peppers/celery
  • Guacamole – we love Wholly Guacamole
  • Apples & nut butter
  • Shredded, leftover chicken
  • Nuts or homemade trail mixes
  • Dried fruit – we love anything from Steve’s Paleo Goods
  • Protein bars like Epic bars
  • Sunfood Coconut Wraps from One Stop Paleo Shop

And for the occasions where we do a bit more planning pre-picnic, we like to pull together a few of our favorite recipes that make for a great picnic menu item! See our recommendations below:
