Hi Friends! Here’s a look at our week!
This week Stacy had one of those epic realizations about how very different our lives are compared to years ago. Paleo lifestyle has completely changed her, both mentally and physically. I can’t even begin to imagine where we’d be or what our life would look like had I not given this lifestyle a try 5+ years ago. It saved me, it saved our family, and it has completely transformed our lives (and my body!). The “before” picture above was after she’d already lost 50lbs, and this week came the realization of how much more differently her body was shaped – not just that it had shrunk – with healthy foods and heavy lifting. If you need some inspiration for your own journey, read —> What it Feels Like to Lose 200 Pounds.
How did we get here? Following our own 3 Phased Approach outlined in Real Life Paleo (NOW IN COSTCO!) like this lunch of leftover meatloaf and salad – both recipes in Real Life Paleo. Yes, we get to look good, feel good, aaaaand eat epic Bacon Meatloaf? Woo hoo! Our health improvements and healing have come from not only what we DON’T eat, but from the NUTRIENTS we consume in the form of colorful fresh veggies and meat from healthy animals. Find our Bacon Meatloaf Recipe in —> Real Life Paleo!
That inspiration for a healthy lifestyle is the most amazing to see manifested in our kids. Like when they play through exercise and make themselves healthy treats. Like this most adorable Cherry Chocolate Chip Mini Scone (made entirely by Cole and Finian all by themselves!) from Everyday Grain-Free Baking. The recipes in this book are perfect for kids or people who don’t have a lot of time. Since they are meant for “everyday,” they are all quick and easy (AND DELICIOUS!). Paired with a Vital Proteins and MH Naturals beef-based protein powder smoothie for a filling on-the-go breakfast. [Side note: How ironic that we started writing cookbooks so that our kids would have something family-friendly they could be excited to make themselves, and now they much prefer to try out other people’s recipes because they already have tried ours!]
Not only do they love real food, and even help us prepare it, but they also participate in the sports that we enjoy. We’re so much more active and playful than we were – which was Stacy’s TRUE and ultimate goal when we first set out years ago. LOVE LOVE LOVE that that I can hear Cole cheering on his fellow competitor in the background while wrestling in our home gym. Totes adorable video —> HERE! Children watch and learn by example, and although we’re far from perfect, we’re so proud of who they’re becoming.
Back to School Just Got Easier!
Don’t let the month of August and all the back to school hustle and bustle overwhelm you! As we teased that they were coming, we have teamed up with One Stop Paleo Shop to bring you TWO boxes that will keep you go-go-going strong! These items have been HAND PICKED BY THE BOYS as their absolute favorites to ensure everyone in your family will love them! Our first box is our Pantry Must Haves (featuring the busy life staples – hello Paleo baking mix) and the second is our Paleo to Go Box (the things we eat when out and about to avoid the HANGRY moments!) —> Check them out HERE! (Find Paleo Parents on the drop down menu).
Who doesn’t love COMFORT FOOD?!
Food is so powerful – it can build us up or tear us apart. It makes an appearance at almost every celebration, and it can provide nostalgic and sentimental feelings. And you DON’T have to give that up when you follow a Paleo diet, no way!
Soup is the ultimate comfort food. It nourishes the body AND the soul! We make it in two parts. Broth: we use the Instant Pot (it doesn’t heat your house up in the summer!) to make bone broth, which we keep on hand at all times. Full instructions —> HERE.
Then Matt builds a soup with the bone broth and loads of veggies, and usually whatever leftover meat we have, cooking it in a big soup pot. And of course it’s always made with love. Full instructions for soup —> HERE!
Sometimes you just need a cookie. Amiright?! N’oatmeal or Chocolate Chip are usually the cookies of choice in our household. Somehow they always seem to improve everyone’s mood. These spring-loaded scoops in three sizes are an awesome tool for portioning out cookie dough, biscuits, or even meatballs. Incredible kitchen-time savers!
Casseroles are classic comfort food! We’ve created several, including the Green Onion and Bacon Mac N Cheese and Leftover Casserole recipes in Real Life Paleo. For baking these one-pot comfort dishes, we love the Le Creuset Au Gratin pans!
There are a few flavors that can instantly make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Culinary mood-boosters! Fresh warm cinnamon and vanilla are two of our favorites, especially in Butter Pecan Apples. And we couldn’t talk about comfort food without mentioning chocolate. Our family loves this raw cocoa powder for things like Paleo Samoa Brownies (recipe below!).
