Detox Market

While I personally use and prefer Beautycounter for most of my skincare needs, they are not the only brand making clean, high-performance products. Earlier this year I went on a quest to find replacements for items from Beautycounter I’d loved that were discontinued in 2020. I tested – I kid you not – over a dozen different toner products from numerous clean beauty websites. I found that the best prices and deals, with the widest variety of items, was The Detox Market.

These selections are based on my own skin needs; I personally have acne-prone normal to oily skin that is also aging. If you have different skin, you will have different needs and I’m happy to provide a free skincare consult at anytime, just e-mail me and I can help customize a routine just for you!

What I swapped at Detox Market

Shop The Detox Market HERE and use DETOX10 for 10% off your order on any of my following favorites:
  • Indie Lee Radiance Renewal Peel pads are a fantastic swap for Beautycounter’s discontinued Rejuvenating Toner Pads.
Vitamin C promotes the appearance of an even, supple, and luminous complexion. Infused with an exfoliating blend of java plum and banana extracts—plus AHAs and beta carotene—these pads slough off dead skin sans irritation for visibly brighter skin with a silky soft texture. I personally have sensitive skin so I can’t use them day and night every single day, but these are fantastic for additional exfoliation (from both the textured pad and botanical acids) when my cycle makes me more prone to acne
  • Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Mist is the best replacement for Beautycounter’s discontinued Nourishing Rosewater Mist. Many brands sneak a “fragrance” in their products so be careful! This one is the most clean, true scent and by far performs most similar. I use this after I wash and before I apply my Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence for a bit more true pH balancing. Rose is fantastic for anyone with irritated or sensitive skin of any kind. It’s also great refresher after you apply make-up, midday pick-me-up if your skin is feeling parched, and especially post workout to “refresh” and balance your face after sweating. The anti-inflammatory properties of rose water can help reduce skin redness, prevent additional swelling, and soothe the discomfort of acne. According to research from 2011, rose water is rich in vitamin C and phenolics, making it a natural, anti-inflammatory option for inflamed acne. [source]
And two new finds I’m loving:

My Skincare Regimen

Remember, every proper skincare regimen has 4 steps:

  1. Wash to clean pollutants and environmental toxins off skin’s surface and flush the pores.
  2. Prep step to prepare the skin for the skin food nutrients you want it to drink up in these steps. If you have dry skin a mineral-rich essence is best and for oily or acne-prone skin you want a pH balancing toner (which is why as I have aging acne-prone skin I use both).
  3. Treat any specific skin issues, depending on your skin goals you may use none or several. Skin conditions such as dry, oily, irritated, acne-prone or aging are common concerns treatments address.
  4. Protect is your body’s defense to prevent, where treat is offense to reverse damage. Using a moisturizer to hydrate the skin, especially with SPF will reduce UV and other environmental damage.

Here’s my updated overall skincare routine, which might not necessarily be right for you. I will say, I tried a LOT of additional products there that I wouldn’t recommend. So if you are looking for the right thing for you, reach out to me and I’m happy to help!

MORNING

  1. Wash*: Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser
  2. Prep (tone): Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Mist then Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence
  3. Treat(ment): Once or twice a week I use the All Bright C Serum. All other days I use the Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum and Facial Oil (I like Beautycounter’s #1, #3, and Lapis), combined with
  4. Protect (moisturize): Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with mineral-based SPF – I put all 3 (serum, oil, and dew skin) in my hand, rub together, and apply as 1 application

EVENING

  1. Wash: if I wore makeup, I remove it with Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil then “double wash” (which just means wash again with a different type of cleanser) with Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser
  2. Prep (tone): Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Mist then Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence
  3. Treat(ment)**: I use the Overnight Resurfacing Peel every other night, and alternate other treatments in between. I love the Charcoal Facial Mask 1-2x/week and around my cycle I add in the Indie Lee Radiance Renewal Peel pads, Odacite B1 + C Pimples: Black Cumin Cajeput Facial Serum, Acne SOS Spot Treatment.
  4. Protect (moisturize): I combine the Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream with a Facial Oil (I like Beautycounter’s #1, #3, and Lapis). Occasionally, if my skin is very parched, instead I’ll use the Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm after the Peel. Do not rub it in, rather rub between hands and then pat a very small amount onto the skin lightly.

* If you went to bed with a clean face on a clean pillow, this step is totally “skippable.”

** While you sleep your body performs the most cellular regeneration. It is the best time to apply your treatments to soak in overnight and let your body repair itself.

I will say, I tried a LOT of additional products there that I wouldn’t recommend. So if you are looking for the right thing for you, reach out to me and I’m happy to help!
